New
Arrival!
Many congratulations
to Phil & Claire on the birth of their baby daughter.
Emily Freda was born at 10.41 on Tuesday 14th October
2008, weighing in at 7lb 3oz. Mother and daughter are
both doing well!
Ellie
in print! When Ellie took part in a creative writing
exercise at school she didn't expect to end up being
published. Her piece was reviewed by the publishers
of a booklet and made it into "Entirely New" a
booklet featuring writing produced under the Canterbury
laureate programme. Congratulations Ellie!
Me
as a particle of dust (and other strange things)
by
Ellie (aged 10)
If I could
be a particle of dust I wouldn’t settle on something
and make my parents mad from dusting. I would
float around as if I were a cloud and not care about
anything. I wouldn’t miss out on parties or other
exciting things. I would just float along and
join in the games, but hopefully not get blown away!
The only down side is that I might get forgotten,
just lying on the bottom of the bed, but I would find
a fun thing to do.
If I could
be a flea I wouldn’t make my cat sick from scratching.
I would hop and jump and run around and fly like
a mini helicopter. I would be a strange type of
flea, because I would be bigger than ordinary fleas.
I would be the size of a bumble bee, just the
right kind of size to get noticed. The only down
side is that fleas sometimes get trapped in circuses,
but that could never be me.
If I could
be a sunflower seed I wouldn’t put myself in a bird
feeder. I would blow down to the ground and let
nature do its thing. I would grow and grow until
roots started sprouting. My flowers (when they
grow) would be different flowers. I would make
them purple and blue. The only down side would
be that after a while the flower would droop and die,
but that wouldn’t be the end of me.
If I could
be some bark off a tree, I wouldn’t just lay on the
ground. I’d make myself useful, let a dog chew
me or be a cat’s scratch pole. My bark would be
blue, my leaves would be yellow and my blossom would
be a beautiful violet colour. The only down side
is that trees do die, but there would be a use for me.
If I could
be a rocket, I wouldn’t just stay in a laboratory. I
would blast off the ground in the middle of the night
and get everyone worried that I was stolen! I
would go into space, find Pluto and Mars then finally
come back home again. I’d see the stars, the clouds
and the sun; I’d be the first thing to land there. The
only down side is that rockets don’t always have a safe
landing, but I would always find somewhere safe!
All these
things sound cool, but I’d much rather be ME!!!!
St Mildreds Bay Family
Picnic 24/08/08
The August
Bank Holiday weekend saw an intrepid bunch assemble
on the seafront at St Mildreds Bay for a family picnic
and kite flying session. Chris, Julie & Ellie, Mick
& Barbara, Steve, Dad & Eileen all had a good
day out. The picnic was interesting as the weather had
decided that with so many remlaps there it just had
to rain! We managed by parking the cars close together
and with the use of umberellas to have a successful
picnic until (as the forecast had predicted) the sun
came out at 4.00 allowing everything to dry out on a
wonderfully warm August evening. Photos of the family
to follow but the kites made quite an impression as
the late evening shots show.
